A few weeks ago I led a few songs at a massive Zumba® Fitness event organized by Dawn Pack. The RSVP from Facebook put the attendance somewhere around 150 but I think we wound up with about 250 folks by the time it was all done. Great turnout, awesome instructors, and just a really great time.
After the event, Vikkilyn Rolfes came up to me and said she liked my routines and wondered if I’d be willing to come to Ohm Family Shelter and do a class for the staff and residents there. They had been breaking out a Zumba® Fitness video three days a week and there had been some pretty good response but some of the folks who really needed the workout weren’t going because they felt like they were too out of shape to hang. She thought bringing in an instructor like me might do the trick – formerly a much bigger guy and still not your typical body type for fitness.
The kickoff was a success and a few of my fellow instructors came out to teach a couple songs each. Since then I’ve been volunteering there three days a week. I absolutely love my students and we have a great time. Lately Colleen Hanna and Holli DeWalt have been coming in to teach with me. They have such a great energy! While I’m out of town I think Colleen is going to be able to take the classes from me so there’s a nice continuity.
